| The premier EMDR training organisation in the UK |
-
Francine Shapiro ran the first EMDR training in the UK in 1994. Traditionally, this training was in two levels, Level one and level two, and groups consisted of 80 to 100+ trainees. However, research has shown that this format led to a high dropout rate after level one and did not always lead to the use of EMDR following training.
-
EMDR Workshops was founded in 2002 to address trainees’ concerns that in general, EMDR training's were too large and lacking in personal interaction. EMDR Workshops spearheaded change with the introduction of small group, three-part interactive training.
-
Positive feedback from participants encouraged EMDR Workshops to develop the new, highly interactive format that optimises practical work and trainee-centred learning.

Six days' training (Part one, Part two and Part three)
-
Part One (two days) provides you with the basic building blocks of the EMDR protocol.
-
Part Two (two days) is taken after some initial clinical use of EMDR. You will be taught additional skills for working with more complex clinical problems and treating anxiety and phobias. You will also learn the basic skills for working with children and adolescents.
-
Part Three (two days) is taken after further clinical experience. You will be taught how to work with complex problems and special situations such as grief, recent traumas, chronic pain and complex trauma including child abuse. You will also be introduced to working with clients who have dissociative conditions.
- Eligibility to train.
In the UK, eligibility criteria to train in EMDR are set by the EMDR Association UK and Ireland and EMDR Europe. Clinicians need to be core mental health professionals e.g. psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, CPN’s, UKCP accredited psychotherapists, or BAC/BACP accredited counsellors. Other clinicians may exceptionally qualify through their ongoing work in the psychotrauma area. For further information please contact Sue.
